Nepal has entered in modern era in 1951. The country has however made progress toward sustainable economic growth since the 1950s. Nepal has used series of plans in an attempt to make progress in economic development. Nepal has completed its 9th economic development plan in 2002. About half of the budget is based on foreigh aid accounts in Nepal. The more prioritie is gicen in development of transportation, communicatio, agriculture, industry etc.
In Nepal agriculture is the principal economic activity. About 80% of the population is involved in agriculture. In Nepal 20% of the total land is cultivable and other 33% area is forested and some are mountain region. Rice and wheat are the main food crops. In low land of the country, it produces an agricultural surplus part of which supplies the food deficient hill and mountain areas.
In Nepal there are many resources like hydroelectriity, tourism, land etc. But the resources are not properly used here. Nepal has to depend on other countries mainly in India to run any projects.
