Nepal is rich in culture. The culture of Nepali people varies according to the ethnic, tribal and social groups. Different groups of people have different folkways, languages, literature, philosophies, religions, festivals and food habits. In Nepal there are different castes. Gurung, Magar, Linbu, Bharman, Chhetri, Newar, Dhimal, Sherpa, Tharu, Limbu, Tamang etc. are some castes of Nepali people. The major language group of Nepal are Indo-Aryan, Tibeto-Burman and Indigenous. Nepali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Magar, Tharu, Tamang, Gurung, Newari, Limbu, Bajjika etc. are the languages spoken in Neali communities. In Nepal Hindu is the main religion. About 80% of population of the country follow this religion. Buddhist is second and about 12% of population follow this religion. Beside these two languages there are other religions in Nepali society. Muslim, Kirant, Christianity etc. are some of them.
People of Hindu religion believe on polytheism. So there are many god and goddesses in this religion. Shiva, Laxmi, Ganesh, Saraswati, Bishnu etc. are some. Hindu people have their own festivals. Dashain, Tihar, Teej, Janai Purnima, Gai Jatra, Ghode Jatra etc. In some festivals the people sacrifice different animals and birds. Hindu people believe in scarifying animals. In Buddhist religion they worship god Buddha. Buddha Jayanti (Birth ceremony of Buddha) is the festival of Buddhist. There are other festivals associated with other religious and ethnic groups. So that we can say that there is cultural diversity in Nepal. However there is piece and harmony among the people of different religion and society of Nepal.
